SED LIBERA NOS A MALO

What happens when our everyday life meets an unexpected, irregular element? This is, perhaps, the key question lying at the core of surrealism, but also what happened to us since the advent of the pandemic. The way we look at life has changed, but our nature pushed us to adapt, in order not to be defeated. When I saw the viral picture of a priest baptizing a baby with a water gun, I was not just hilariously entertained, but mostly charmed. Of course, if I struggled to adapt my lifestyle to the “new normal”, how could a millenary institution like the Church adjust its ancient rituals to social distancing? As a Catholic Christian myself, this is what I wanted to explore, laughing at ourselves first while also capturing and casting an ironical shade over a very dramatic moment in our time.
